At the end of this activity, you will be informed on the principles of authentic assessment and its usefulness in the classroom.




MY TASK

 Authentic assessment is an alternative way of assessing students’ learning to be able to use it, you must have a deep understanding of it. To help you reach your goal, do the following task:
1Visit a classroom and interview the teacher on his/her experiences in using authentic assessment.
2.       Describe how the teacher uses the authentic assessment.
3.       Write a reflective journal on the activity.








            For this learning activity, please document the information gathered from the interview with the teacher on authentic assessment. Write your documentation using the activity form provided for you.


MY INTERVIEW NOTES

FS STUDENT: What is an authentic assessment?
TEACHER: Authentic assessment is an assessment method that tests the skills of the students. It is reflect real life situation or experiences of the students.

FS STUDENT: What is your gain as a teacher using authentic assessment as your assessment tools?
TEACHER: Using authentic assessment in learning environment is my advantage because I can easily teach my students since it is a real life situation or experience so they can easily cope up in the topics and I can easily measure the skills and accountability if my students. One of the importance of using authentic assessment, I can able to learn more about my students, their interest, goals and achievement.

FS STUDENT: What are the benefits of the students in using authentic assessment?
TEACHER: They can easily cope up in the topics and through authentic assessment the students can able to improve and enhance their skills and accountability. They also enhance their higher order thinking skills and their creativity.







ANALYSIS 
  
1. What is Authentic Assessment?

Authentic assessment is also known as performance-based assessment; it gives students the opportunity to show what they know authentic assessment is a test that reflects real life situation or experiences. It also gives meaning to assessment task and students learning skills in real life contexts which are used in the real world. Through authentic assessment, the teacher can easily identify the interest of her students. Best example of authentic assessment is a portfolio.





2. How was authentic assessment used? Was it used to measure learning through the product?

The authentic assessment was successfully used by my cooperating teacher. She used it to measure the skills and accountability of her students and enhance their higher order thinking skills. For an example, my cooperating teacher ask her students to make a song about their lesson, in that way the teacher can easily identify if her students love music or not.  And through the use of rubrics the teacher grades them fairly.



REFLECTION






           What are your insights and feelings about the use of authentic assessment?

    It’s really good to used authentic assessment as assessment methods because the teacher can able to identify and enhance the skills of her students. Using authentic assessment in learning environment makes student easily cope up in the lesson and it’s great in the part of the teacher.


Describe how the teacher used the authentic assessment?

     The teacher used authentic assessment to measure the skills and to know the interest of her students. Since their lesson is all about points in solid figures, the teacher gave a project, that project is to make solid figures made up of clay. The students will enhance their creativity. The project is an example of product-oriented assessment wherein the teacher assesses the product alone


What could be the gains of the students and teachers in using authentic assessment?

     Using authentic assessment is an effective way to teach and assess as its sets students up for success as well as being engaging and physically involves the students and they can able to enhance or improve their skills. In part of the teachers, the teachers can able to know better about his/her students, their interest.

     Which part of the teacher’s use of authentic assessment do you feel like improving or revising?

    They are nothing to revise on how my cooperating teacher used authentic assessment because she can able to manage her students and at the same time she can able to measure what she intended   to measure. She also helps her students in improving their skills and accountability; enhance their higher order thinking skill.
